New regular ferry services for small islands a great success.
The pilot project to provide regular ferry services to small islands off the coast off West Donegal which commenced for a three-month trial period at the beginning of July has been hailed as a great success by both, islanders and visitors to the islands.
The project, which is supported by Comhar na nOileán Teo, has provided a regular ferry services to Inis Bó Finne (Inishbofin), Gabhla (Gola), Inis Fraoigh (Inishfree), Inis Mhic an Doirn (Rutland), Inis Caorach (Inishkeera) and Inis Oirthear (Inis Shirrer).
STUDY
A study is being undertaken over the period and a subsequent report will be written after the 12-week trial period has expired.
Skippers Jimmy Sweeney, Michael O Brien and Oscar Duffy have all reported a very busy summer and have reported last weekend, August 21/22/23 as one of the busiest of the season.
Skipper Michael O’Brien is providing a service with the Carmel Olivia from Magheraroarty Pier to Inishbofin (daily), Skipper Jimmy Sweeney will take you to Gola (daily) and Inis Oirther (by arrangement) from Magheragallon and Skipper Oscar Duffy is providing the ferry services to Inishfree (Thursday to Sunday), Rutland (Friday) and Inishkeera (Saturday) from Burtonport.
