Lá eolais Guth na Gaeltachta/ Conradh na Gaeilge in Óstán Buswells, 6 Deireadh Fómhair
Information Day / Guth na Gaeltachta / Conradh na Gaeilge
Buswell Hotel, Kildare Street, Dublin – October 6
A chairde,
Istigh le seo, tá leathanach eolais dhátheangach a bhéas muid ag úsáid don Lá Eolais i mBaile Átha Cliath ag leagan béime ar an dá phríomh phointe:
1. Go bhfuil muid ag iarraidh go nglacfaí le moltaí uile an Chomhchoiste Dála faoin Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge agus
2. Go bhfuil muid ag cur in aghaidh moltaí na Roinne Airgeadais
Tá níos mo na tríocha moladh déanta ag an Chomhchoiste agus roghnaigh muid roinnt acu anseo.
Tá níos mó ná seasca ionadaí poiblí, idir TD agus Seanadóirí, tar éis a chur in iúl cheana féin go mbeidh siad i láthair ar an gCéadaoin.
1. Tá muid ag moladh go nglacfaí le moltaí uile an Chomhchoiste Dála maidir leis an Straitéis
20 Bliain don Ghaeilge a bhfuil tacaíocht traspháirtí acu. Tá roinnt de na moltaí thíos:
An Ghaeltacht:
1. Soiléiriú agus buanú ar stádas Údarás na Gaeltachta go háirithe ó thaobh cúraimí forbartha bonneagair agus
geilleagair de.
2. Tacaíochtaí do na teaghlaigh atá ag tógáil a gclann le Gaeilge, mar shampla, Ionaid Tacaíochta Teaghlaigh,
gréasáin shóisialta don aos óg srl.
3. Atarraingt a dhéanamh ar roinnt toghranna le cosaint a thabhairt do Ghaeltachtaí láidre cosúil le Rann na
Feirste.
4. An tOideachas:
– Bord Oideachais Ghaeltachta agus Ghaelscolaíochta a bhunú faoi chúram COGG.
– Áireamh ar riachtanais dhifriúla foghlaimeoirí agus cainteoirí dúchais
– Polasaí náisiúnta ó thaobh an tumoideachais de
– Scéim „Erasmus‟ na Gaeltachta a bhunú agus Cúrsa Gaeltachta an BA (Oideachas) a leathnú
– Clár oibre d‟fhorbairt na hollscolaíochta lán-Ghaeilge
– Soláthar dóthanach don Ghaeloideachas do phobail uile na tíre a chinntiú agus suímh do scoileanna
nua á roghnú (aitheantas láithreach do Ghaelscoil Ráth Tó)
– Ábhar scoile eile “Saíocht agus Litríocht na Gaeilge” a sholáthar
– Curaclam comhtháite a chur i bhfeidhm
Eile:
5. Bunú gréasáin shóisialta trí mheán na Gaeilge don aos óg a shonrú mar thosaíocht sa Straitéis
6. Normalú sa Státchóras m.sh. gníomh cothromúcháin earcaíochta Gaeilge san Earnáil Phoiblí agus an Ghaeilge
ar chomharthaí bóithre a bheith chomh feiceálach agus chomh hinléite leis an mBéarla.
7. Cúram neamhspleách faireacháin agus measúnaithe a thabhairt d‟Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga
8. Aitheantas do ról criticiúil na n-eagras deonach agus pobail.
2. Tá muid go láidir ag cur in aghaidh Mholtaí na Roinne Airgeadais i leith na Gaeltachta mar
atá leagtha amach sa cháipéis ‘Tosaíochtaí Infheistíochta Infreastruchtúir 2010 – 2016’

Tá na moltaí seo ag teacht go hiomlán salach ar an Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge. Lena chois sin, beidh an t-ísliú
caiteachais sin i bhfad níos géire sa Roinn seo ná in aon Roinn eile.

Information Day
6 October 2010
1. We are recommending that all the recommendations of the Joint Oireachtas Committee
regarding the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish language, for which there is cross-party support,
be accepted. Some of the recommendations are below:
An Ghaeltacht:
1. Clarification and continuance of the status of Údarás na Gaeltachta especially with regard to infrastructural and
economic development responsibilities.
2. Supports for families who raise their children through Irish, for example, Family Support Centres, social
networks for youths etc.
3. Redrawing of some electoral divisions to protect strong Gaeltacht areas such as Rann na Feirste.
4. Education
a. Establishment of the Board of Gaeltacht and Irish-Medium Education under the care of COGG.
b. Assessment of the different needs of learners and native speakers.
c. A national policy with regard to immersion education
d. Establishment of a Gaeltacht „Erasmus‟ scheme and the expansion of the Gaeltacht BA (Education)
Course.
e. A program for the development of Irish-medium university education.
f. Ensure a sufficient supply of Irish-medium education for every community in the country in the
selection of locations for new schools (immediate recognition of Gaelscoil Ráth Tó)
g. Provision of an extra school subject “Irish Culture and Literature”
h. Implementation of an integrated curriculum
Other:
5. Specification as a priority in the Strategy, the establishment of Irish-medium social networks for youths.
6. Normalisation in the State system eg. a balancing recruitment action for Irish in the public sector and that Irish
on roadsigns be as visible and legible as English.
7. The responsibility of independent monitoring and assessment be given to the Office of the Language Commissioner.
8. Recognition of the vital role of the voluntary and community organisations.
2. We strongly oppose the Recommendations of the Department of Finance with regard to the
Gaeltacht as laid out in the report ‘Infrastructure Investment Priorities 2010-2016’
Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs
Capital Expenditure 2008-2016 (€ Millions)
2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
149 133 105 86 86 86 40 30 30
These recommendations completely contradict the 20 Year Strategy for Irish. As well as this, this reduced expenditure
will be much more severe on this Department than any other Department.
